How might we create an experience that challenges the notion of modern perfection and embraces the beauty of imperfection through a publication?

A Book About Imperfection

Forces of Nature is a book that explores the myth of absolute perfection, appreciating the world's inherently imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete nature. Through juxtaposing a series of case studies, photo essays, personal narratives, and original photography, it guides readers on a journey to appreciate the intricate and raw beauty of nature's forces.

Physical form

To convey the theme of embracing imperfection and the forces of nature, the publication is encased in a minimalist white slipcase, featuring a thumb cut artfully crafted in the shape of a fingerprint, and the cut edge is finely sanded to form a smooth, sloping contour.

The publication itself spans 144 pages, coptic-bound using black thread. Echoing the concept of natural forces, the cover is created from handmade paper, enhancing the tactile experience.

The Opening Experence

The initial experience of engaging with the publication mimics a transition from the pristine to the raw and imperfect, reflecting nature's authentic essence.
