ACORN. is an app that helps solo hikers build connections through leaving stamps in community logbooks and create their own custom stamp.

My Journey

Collaborating with Burke and Emi was a delightful experience. Together, we actively engaged in the ideation, user testing, and wireframing stages, ensuring a cohesive and innovative approach throughout. As we transitioned into the prototyping phase of Acorn, I took on the responsibility of crafting the overall visual language, creating viewpoint illustrations, designing micro-interactions, and developing animations for the 'Map Your Route' feature.

Customize Your Stamp

Select the shape of your personal stamp and then view the ACORN. preset stamp collection. Stamps are curated for you based on the local ecosystem. You can also choose the color of your stamp and switch between light and dark styles.

Map Your Route

Zoom in & out on the map to see viewpoints, hiking paths, and visitor center locations. Select viewpoint pins to view location details and create your journey between different pins.

View Other Stamps

Upon entering a viewpoint, you will be given the option to open a community logbook. You can move around the page and see stamps left by previous hikers. By clicking on any stamp, you can read a message left by another person.

Leave a Stamp

To leave your own mark in the logbook, look for an open space and tap on it. You can then adjust the position of your stamp by tilting your phone. Finally, feel free to leave a message where you can reflect on your journey or respond to a specific prompt.

New Logbook Found!

One highlight of Acorn. is the experience of navigating through the logbook once the user reaches a viewpoint. Upon arrival, a guide to the navigational gestures will appear on the screen. The user will be given the freedom to move around the logbook, which extends beyond the frame of the screen.

While zooming in and out, the user can leave their personal stamp at each viewpoint. By tilting the physical phone, the user can have their stamp uniquely placed at a slight angle, which resembles the organic quality of a real rubber stamp.
